French President Emmanuel Macron to visit Sri Lanka this weekend

Following his return from Papua New Guinea, French President Emmanuel Macron will travel to Sri Lanka this weekend, according to French media cited by the Lankan news outlet News First. During his visit, Macron will reportedly have a meeting with Ranil Wickremesinghe, the president of Sri Lanka. A French President will be traveling to Sri Lanka for the first time, and he will also be visiting other Pacific island nations for the first time. Macron’s visit had not, however, been made public. According to News First, the French President will first visit Vanuatu on July 27 before continuing on to Papua New Guinea.

According to Papua New Guinea Today, President Macron was extended an invitation by Prime Minister James Marape of Papua New Guinea during a meeting with Walid Fouque, the President’s Special Advisor for Asia and the Pacific, on June 5 in Port Moresby. According to Papua New Guinea Today, Macron is scheduled to arrive in Port Moresby at 11 a.m. on Friday. During his visit, he will meet with Governor-General Bob Dadae and Prime Minister Marape one-on-one before participating in a bilateral meeting and signing several agreements.
