Former U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi was hospitalized after sustaining an injury during an official visit to Luxembourg, her spokesperson confirmed on Friday. Pelosi was in the country as part of a bipartisan Congressional delegation commemorating the 80th anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge.
The Battle of the Bulge, a pivotal World War II conflict, began as a German offensive and ended with a decisive Allied victory.
“While travelling with a bipartisan Congressional delegation in Luxembourg to mark the 80th anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge, Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi sustained an injury during an official engagement and was admitted to the hospital for evaluation,” Pelosi’s spokesperson, Ian Krager, said in a statement.
Pelosi is undergoing medical treatment and has expressed her regret over missing the rest of the scheduled events.
“Speaker Emerita Pelosi is currently receiving excellent treatment from doctors and medical professionals. She continues to work and regrets that she is unable to attend the remainder of the CODEL engagements to honor the courage of our servicemembers during one of the greatest acts of American heroism in our nation’s history,” the spokesperson added.

The former House Speaker also conveyed her gratitude to American veterans and the people of Luxembourg for their contributions during World War II.
“Speaker Emerita Pelosi conveys her thanks and praise to our veterans and gratitude to people of Luxembourg and Bastogne for their service in World War II and their role in bringing peace to Europe,” the statement read.
The statement further noted Pelosi’s personal connection to the war and her honor in being part of the delegation.
“Speaker Emerita Pelosi was personally and officially honoured to travel with the distinguished delegation, many of whom had family members who fought in World War II—including her uncle, Johnny. She looks forward to returning home to the U.S. soon.”
Nancy Pelosi has a distinguished political career, having served as the 52nd Speaker of the House of Representatives. She made history in 2007 as the first woman to hold the position and again in January 2019 when she reclaimed the role, becoming the first person in over six decades to do so. Pelosi led House Democrats for two decades, cementing her legacy as one of the most influential leaders in U.S. politics.
