The following items have been added/updated to the Reuters Daybook for Tuesday, October 21: UPDATES THE SENATE +Meets at 10 a.m. when, following any leader remarks, the Senate will be in a period of morning business with senators to speak for up to 10 minutes each. At approximately 11 a.m., the Senate holds a confirmation vote on the nomination of Harold Mooty to be a U.S. district judge for the Northern District of Alabama. The Senate will stand in recess until 2:15 p.m. for the weekly party lunches. At approximately 2:20 p.m., the Senate holds a cloture vote on the nomination of Anne-Leigh Gaylord Moe to be a U.S. district judge for the Middle District of Florida; to be followed by a cloture vote on the nomination of William Mercer to be a U.S. district judge for the District of Montana. [If cloture is invoked on the Moe nomination, the Senate holds a confirmation vote on that nomination at approximately 5:30 p.m. If cloture is invoked on the Mercer nomination, the Senate holds a confirmation vote on that nomination at a time TBD.] (SPORTS-COLLEGE-COMPENSATION/DEMS) ADVISORY — At 12Noon, Sens. Maria Cantwell (D-Wash.), Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) and Cory Booker (D-N.J.) hold an online news conference to discuss their opposition to the "Student Compensation and Opportunity through Rights and Endorsements (SCORE) Act," legislation they say "would deny or diminish many of the hard-fought rights that college athletes have finally obtained after years of court battles." The event is hosted by the National Football League Players Association (NFLPA), National Basketball Players Association (NBPA), National Women's Soccer League Players Association (NWSLPA), Major League Soccer Players Association (MLSPA), Major League Baseball Players Association (MLBPA) and the National Hockey League Players Association (NHLPA). Speakers include: Spencer Haywood, the plaintiff in the 1971 Supreme Court decision Haywood v. National Basketball Association who in 1983 finished his NBA Hall of Fame playing career with the Washington Bullets; former NFL tight end Dwayne Allen, a player director at the NFL Players Association; and former professional soccer player Meghann Burke, executive director of the NWSL Players Association.
