A massive fire broke out on Wednesday at the main stage of the famous Tomorrowland music festival near Antwerp, Belgium. The incident happened just one day before thousands of fans were expected to arrive for the event.
Although the stage was completely destroyed, the organisers confirmed that no one was hurt. They also assured fans that the festival would continue as planned over the next two weekends.
Flames Engulfed Stage and Nearby Forest
Photos and videos shared online and on local news showed intense flames and thick black smoke rising from the stage area. The fire also reached nearby wooded areas, making the situation more dangerous.
In an official update on the festival’s website, the organisers said, “Due to a serious incident and fire on the Tomorrowland Mainstage, our beloved Mainstage has been severely damaged.” They added, “We can confirm that no one was injured during the incident.”
Organisers Focused on Moving Forward
Despite the fire, Tomorrowland’s team is working hard to keep the festival running smoothly. They said their current focus is on “finding solutions” for the upcoming festival weekend.
About 100,000 fans are expected to gather in the town of Boom, many of whom plan to stay at the on-site DreamVille campsite. Organisers confirmed that DreamVille would open as scheduled on Thursday.
Star DJs to Perform as Planned
Top international DJs and artists such as David Guetta, Armin Van Buuren, Lost Frequencies, and Charlotte de Witte are scheduled to perform starting Friday. The performances were originally planned for both the main stage and the Freedom stage. Since the main stage is now damaged, it’s likely some changes will be made to the performance schedule.
Fire Appears Accidental, Investigation Underway
Several hundred firefighters battled the flames in an effort to save the main stage. Antwerp prosecutors have now launched an investigation into the incident. However, initial reports suggest that the fire was likely accidental.
Tomorrowland’s Global Impact
Tomorrowland was founded two decades ago by two brothers from Belgium. Over the years, it has grown into one of the world’s most famous electronic dance music festivals, attracting fans and artists from all over the globe.
