Spain has faced a deadly wildfire that claimed the life of one individual while thousands of people were forced to flee on Tuesday.
Gusty winds and soaring temperatures added to the adversity of the wildfire in the southern region of Andalusia. Approximately 2,000 residents and tourists were evacuated from their homes and hotels near Tarifa’s beaches.
The blaze erupted close to an area where another fire had prompted evacuations earlier this month. “We managed to save the residential area at the very last second,” said the interior minister in Andalusia’s regional government, Antonio Sanz.

On the other hand, in the northwestern region of Castile and Leon, the officials reported at least 30 wildfires on Monday. One of them is a threat to Las Médulas, a UNESCO-approved Heritage site known for its ancient Roman gold mines.
The wildfires in Spain are what meteorologists call the ‘most intense day of the current heatwave’. All regions are under high alert with temperatures soaring up to 40 degree Celsius.
