CVS Pharmacy was hit by a large system failure on Wednesday, causing an outage that stopped prescriptions from being filled. The problem led to social media frustration, with users claiming the entire CVS system had crashed and staff couldn’t process requests.
The outage seemed to be widespread, hitting the main computer systems used inside CVS pharmacies. Because of the technical failure, staff could not check or process prescription details. This meant they couldn’t give out medicines. Posts on Facebook and X showed that the problem wasn’t local, with people reporting issues from the East Coast all the way to places like Ladysmith, Wisconsin.

The system failure led to a big wave of concern. People quickly turned to social media to share complaints and talk about their experiences. One person on Facebook stressed how bad the situation was, writing, “If you need a prescription from CVS, forget about it! Their system is down across the whole East Coast!” If you need the meds to live, they are telling people to call 911!”. The sentiment of frustration was widespread, with another user noting they had waited for 25 minutes only to be turned away.
According to the reports, CVS had not shared any official information about the reason for the outage or how big the problem was. Because of this lack of communication, many customers had no idea when the system would come back online. The absence of updates made the public even more frustrated.
This is not the first time CVS has faced such a disruptive technical issue. A similar outage occurred in October, which also prevented customers from filling or picking up their prescriptions. During that previous incident, a CVS spokesperson acknowledged "minor delays" as stores worked to come back online. The recurrence of a major system failure points to an ongoing vulnerability in their technical infrastructure.
