Chicago: 14 injured, including 3 kids, in shooting on Halloween night

On Halloween night, a drive-by shooting left up to 14 people hurt, three of them children, in Chicago’s Garfield Park neighbourhood, according to Chicago police.

According to WLS-TV, Chicago Police Superintendent David Brown said there were three juvenile victims: a 3-year-old, an 11-year-old and a teenager who may be 13 years old. The rest of the victims were adults who ranged in age from their 30s to their 50s. Additionally, one person was struck by a car.

At least ten ambulances, according to the Chicago Fire Department, were dispatched to the area.

According to Brown, the 9:30 p.m. shooting was a drive-by that ended quickly and was recorded on POD video, which police are currently reviewing.

Brown said preliminary information indicates there were at least two shooters seen on the video, though that number could change. They appeared to fire indiscriminately into the crowd.

Brown said there were several large groups at the corner, which is a popular gathering spot in the neighbourhood.

Some allegedly attended a vigil, which at this point doesn’t seem to be connected to the shooting.

The victims were brought to a number of nearby hospitals, and according to Brown, their conditions range from critical to non-life threatening. There have not yet been any fatalities reported.

At this moment, there is no known explanation for the shooting, and according to Brown, there were no armed conflicts Monday night at the corner.

In order to interrogate victims, police must wait till their medical care is complete.

According to Brown, there is also no description of the culprit or offenders, no one in jail, or even the make or model of the implicated car.
