India has officially welcomed the Gaza peace initiative unveiled by US President Donald J. Trump alongside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, describing it as a credible step toward lasting peace between Israel and Palestine.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi voiced his support on social media platform X, saying, “We welcome President Donald J. Trump’s announcement of a comprehensive plan to end the Gaza conflict. It provides a viable pathway to long term and sustainable peace, security and development for the Palestinian and Israeli people, as also for the larger West Asian region.”
He further urged unity behind the initiative, adding, “We hope that all concerned will come together behind President Trump’s initiative and support this effort to end conflict and secure peace.”

What the 20-Point Gaza Peace Roadmap Proposes
The peace blueprint, presented in Washington, seeks to halt the conflict that began after the Hamas-led attack on October 7, 2023, which triggered extensive military operations and heavy civilian casualties. Key features of the proposal include:
Immediate Halt to Hostilities
All active combat operations would stop as soon as both parties accept the agreement.
Hostage-Prisoner Swap
-
Within 72 hours of Israel’s approval, Hamas must release all Israeli hostages — living or deceased.
-
In exchange, Israel would free 250 Palestinian prisoners serving life terms, along with 1,700 detainees held since the start of the conflict.
Disarmament of Hamas
The group would be required to dismantle its military infrastructure, including weapons stockpiles and tunnels. Combatants who surrender arms and agree to peaceful coexistence would receive amnesty, while those wishing to relocate would be granted safe passage to host nations.
Phased Withdrawal of Israeli Forces
Israeli troops would pull back to a designated line inside Gaza, eventually completing a staged exit once disarmament conditions are verified and an international peacekeeping mission is deployed. Trump emphasized that Israel will not occupy or annex Gaza.
Temporary Governance Structure
Gaza would transition to technocratic Palestinian administration, overseen by a new international coalition called the “Board of Peace.” The body would be chaired by Trump and include figures such as former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair.
President Trump reiterated that the US would fully support Israel should Hamas refuse the deal but insisted that peace in the region was now “beyond very close.”
India’s Position in the Global Response
India’s endorsement aligns with its long-standing advocacy for dialogue, ceasefire, and humanitarian relief in the region. New Delhi continues to support a negotiated two-state solution, envisioning Israel and a sovereign Palestine living side by side in peace.
By backing the proposal, India joins a growing list of nations including Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and Pakistan that have cautiously welcomed the initiative as a potential turning point for West Asian stability.
