A police pursuit in high drama occurred in Melbourne, Australia on Friday and was broadcast live by news helicopters. The chase began after a white van allegedly rammed a number of cars on the West Gate Bridge.
Video taken from helicopter reveals the wrecked white van navigating traffic on the West Gate Bridge at approximately 1 PM local time. The van "brushed several cars and narrowly avoided others during the police pursuit," before racing onto the Princes Freeway. The chase took about 15 minutes.
Watch:
When the van slowed down, "the driver and accused can be seen jumping out the window," the video captures. The car then moved on its own, eventually crashing into a light post on the freeway.
In a dramatic turn, "the man's flight was shortened when he was hit by an unmarked police van." Following that, officers got out of their cars and approached to arrest the suspect, bringing him into custody.
Officials have yet to ascertain the precise motivation for the pursuit or what the man is alleged to have done leading up to the incident.
