Amid the violent anti-government protests in Nepal, more than 40 devotees from Bhavnagar, Gujarat, are stuck in the Himalayan nation. The situation worsened after authorities suspended flight operations till Wednesday.
The group had traveled to Nepal for a pilgrimage but became stranded when protests spread across major cities. According to local officials, arrangements are being made to ensure their safety.
BJP MLA Jitubhai Vaghani spoke directly to the devotees via phone, assuring them of help. He said he had informed Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and the Indian Government about the crisis. India Today reported that efforts are underway to provide necessary support.

PM Modi Appeals for Peace
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep concern over the ongoing unrest. He described the violence and deaths as disturbing.
In a post on X, PM Modi wrote, “My heart is extremely disturbed by the fact that many young people have lost their lives. Nepal’s stability, peace, and prosperity are of utmost importance.”

Prisoners Escape After Protestors Breach Jails
The protests took a dangerous turn when demonstrators attacked Pokhra and Nakhu jails. Nearly 900 prisoners escaped after protestors breached the premises.

In Kathmandu’s Nakhu jail, parts of the facility were set on fire, and all prisoners were freed, as the large-scale jailbreak has added to the government’s challenges in controlling law and order.
Govt Buildings and Courts Torched
The protests have spread to multiple districts, with demonstrators targeting government and private properties.
In Rupandehi, protestors set fire to government offices and private buildings. Two district courts were also attacked.
Reports from The Kathmandu Post confirmed that valuable documents at the Butwal High Court and the district court in Bhairahawa were destroyed. Similarly, the Siraha district court was set ablaze, wiping out important files.

Visuals shared by ANI showed Kantipur TV’s headquarters engulfed in flames. The incident highlights how even media outlets have not been spared in the widespread violence.
Gautam Buddha International Airport Attacked
In Bhairahawa city, protestors set fire to the Gautam Buddha International Airport. The demonstrators entered the premises, vandalized property, and torched vehicles.
According to The Kathmandu Post, four government cars and several security vehicles were damaged. The attack has raised fresh concerns about the safety of key infrastructure in Nepal.
Indo-Nepal Border on High Alert
The unrest has also affected India’s border regions. Reports of violence came from the Nepal side of the Panitanki border in West Bengal.
Rajesh Kumar Yadav, ADG & IG of North Bengal Police, told ANI, “As the situation on the border is concerned, it is absolutely peaceful at the International border and on the Indian side of the border.”

Yadav confirmed that police forces and the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) have increased deployment along the border. He added that the Immigration & Customs Office across the border in Nepal had been attacked.

The unrest, triggered by the government’s decision to block social media platforms and fueled by corruption scandals, has quickly spiraled out of control. With airports, jails, courts, and media outlets under attack, Nepal is facing one of its most serious internal crises in years.
For now, stranded pilgrims, citizens, and neighboring countries are watching closely as Nepal struggles to restore peace and stability.
