Shah was the first monarch of unified Nepal and is remembered as the “Father of the Nation.” His image during the address symbolized unity and strength at a time of deep unrest.
Who Was Prithvi Narayan Shah?
Prithvi Narayan Shah (1723–1775) was the King of Gorkha who brought many small kingdoms together to create modern Nepal. He is remembered for building a strong and independent nation and protecting it from foreign powers. His dream of a united and self-reliant Nepal still inspires people today.
Army Takes Charge of Prisons
Army personnel surrounded Dillibazar Jail in Kathmandu after several inmates attempted to step out, demanding release.
Police forces had earlier retreated from the prisons, except for their headquarters, leaving the Nepal Army in charge of security. Troops ensured that the situation did not spiral further out of control.
Patrolling in Kathmandu Amid Curfew
As curfew orders remained in force across the capital, armed police force (APF) teams patrolled Kathmandu. The move came after violent protests a day earlier set large parts of the city on fire.
Army and APF presence is now visible across major government and public buildings.
Security was also tightened at Sital Niwas, the official residence of Nepal’s President. Army troops and armed police were seen guarding the Rashtrapati Bhawan after protesters attempted to vandalize government infrastructure.
President Calls for Dialogue with Gen Z Protesters
Nepali President Ram Chandra Paudel is expected to meet Gen Z protest leaders on Wednesday. He aims to seek a peaceful resolution to the ongoing anti-government demonstrations.
“I urge all sides to remain calm, prevent further harm to the nation, and come to the table for talks. In a democracy, the demands raised by citizens can be addressed through dialogue and negotiation,” the President said in a statement.
Reports suggest the President will meet the delegation of young protesters along with senior army officials. The talks are seen as a crucial step to end the crisis that has shaken Nepal in recent days.
Crisis at a Crossroads
Nepal is at a turning point as the army has completely seized control of law and order. Although security personnel are working to keep the peace, attention is now on whether communication between the government and the youth movement can stop more bloodshed and violence.
