A powerful explosion inside a mosque in Indonesia’s capital, Jakarta, left at least 54 people injured during Friday prayers on November 7. The blast took place at a mosque located within a school complex in North Jakarta’s Kelapa Gading area, according to reports. Authorities have launched a detailed investigation to determine the cause of the explosion, which may have links to possible terrorist activity.

Explosion at School Mosque in Indonesia During Friday Prayers

Witnesses said chaos broke out when the explosion ripped through the mosque during the afternoon prayers. Many of the injured were students and teachers present inside the premises.

Police officials confirmed that emergency teams rushed the victims to nearby hospitals, with several people suffering from burns and other injuries.

Jakarta Police Chief Asep Edi Suheri said in a press statement that investigators were collecting evidence and questioning witnesses to understand what triggered the explosion.

Police Recover Suspicious Materials

According to early findings, investigators recovered several suspicious items from the site, including a body vest, firearms, and bomb-making materials. These items have raised concerns about a potential terror plot.

Authorities have not yet confirmed whether the blast was caused by a planted explosive device or an accidental detonation.

Local reports also mentioned that footage from the scene showed victims covered in blood as they were evacuated from the mosque. Despite the impact of the explosion, photos revealed only limited structural damage to the building.

Investigation Underway

Police have sealed off the area and deployed bomb squads to ensure there are no additional threats. The status of the suspect or suspects remains unclear as the investigation continues.

Authorities are also analyzing handwriting and markings found on the recovered weapons to trace their source. Officials have appealed to the public to remain calm and avoid spreading rumors while the investigation proceeds.
