A Bangladesh Air Force trainer plane crashed into Milestone School and College in the Uttara section of Dhaka on Monday, killing 19 and injuring more than 100. The F-7 BGI trainer aircraft, which is employed for pilot training, hit the campus when students were present for their normal classes or examinations.

Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus was deeply saddened by the incident, terming it an “irreparable loss” for the Air Force, students, parents, and teachers. He said the whole country is in mourning. The crash prompted massive destruction, prompting hospitals to switch to emergency mode. Governments initiated an emergency hotline for victims.

Yunus Expresses Deep Grief

Muhammad Yunus, acting Chief Adviser of Bangladesh, made an official announcement following the crash. He stated, “I express deep shock and sorrow over the tragic incident of the Bangladesh Air Force F-7 BGI training aircraft crash on the campus of Milestone School and College.”

Describing the loss as “irreparable,” Yunus further stated, “The loss of the air force personnel, students, parents, teachers, staff of Milestone School and College, and others in this tragedy is irreparable. This is a time of profound sorrow for the nation.” His office subsequently confirmed that over 83 victims were being treated at multiple hospitals.

Minutes Before Tragedy, Aircraft Took Off

The F-7 BGI jet departed from a local base at 1:06 PM in local time, according to the military’s public affairs department. The jet crashed on the campus of the school within the Diabari neighbourhood of Dhaka shortly after takeoff.

The plane, intended for training, crashed during school hours. Military personnel and firefighters scrambled to the scene for rescue.

Emergency Hotline Activated

In a reaction to the crash, an emergency hotline has been launched. The National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery made public the number—01949043697—for victims and families.

Yunus’ office made the news public, urging individuals to get help where necessary. Hospitals in Dhaka were still on high alert.

School Turned Into Disaster Zone

Milestone School and College, a reputable private college, became a place of horror. The families and survivors have reported the incident as a scene of fire and chaos.

The military and aviation officials have yet to verify the reasons behind the crash. However, an investigation is being conducted. The country has been shaken to its core by this tragedy. With children being among the dead and injured, sorrow has spread wider than the capital. Muhammad Yunus’ message encapsulated the mood of the country—of grief, shock, and a cry for accountability and healing.
