Amid violent anti-corruption protests in Nepal, former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba and his wife, Foreign Minister Arzu Rana Deuba, were assaulted by demonstrators on Tuesday.
Protesters stormed into the couple’s residence in Budanilkantha, Kathmandu. Videos show the ex-PM bleeding from his face after the attack. Before police arrived, the mob vandalized and desecrated the residence.

Gen Z Protesters Lead Agitation
The protests, led mostly by Gen Z youth, spread across Kathmandu and other areas of Nepal. Protesters burned government offices, ministers’ houses, and police stations.
Agitators shouted slogans like “KP Chor, Desh Chhod” and “Take Action Against Corrupt Leaders.”
The protests began after the government imposed a nationwide ban on social media, blocking Facebook, YouTube, X, and 26 other platforms.
“Stop the ban on social media. Stop corruption, not social media,” protesters chanted in the streets. Anger over corruption and unemployment added fuel to the demonstrations.
Casualties and Violence Reported
At least 19 people have died, and more than 300 have been injured in the protests. The violent clashes turned parts of Kathmandu into what witnesses described as a “war-like” zone. Groups of young men and women fought the police with stones and sticks.

Visuals showed Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel being chased through the streets. A protester jumped and kicked him, sending him crashing into a wall.
Facing mounting pressure, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli resigned on Tuesday after revoking the controversial social media ban. His resignation came as protesters continued to demand accountability and systemic reforms.
International Concern
The growing violence has drawn attention from global organizations. Human rights groups have called for restraint, urging Nepal’s authorities to protect the rights of peaceful assembly.
