Former Nepal Prime Minister Jhalanath Khanal’s wife, Rabi Laxmi Chitrakar, died after their residence in Dallu, Kathmandu, was set on fire during violent protests.
Family members told Nepali outlet Khabar Hub that Chitrakar was rushed to Kirtipur Burn Hospital in critical condition. Despite efforts, she could not survive her injuries.
The attack came as Gen Z-led protests entered their second day across Nepal. Demonstrations continued even after the government announced that it had lifted the ban on social media platforms.

Protesters demanded the resignation of former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and the dismissal of the government.
Violence escalated on the streets of Kathmandu and other cities. Two more people died on the second day of protests, raising the total death toll to 22. More than 300 others have been injured since the unrest began.
The protests, triggered by frustration over corruption and the government’s decision to block 26 social media platforms, have quickly spiraled into a nationwide anti-government movement.
