Kulman Ghising is most likely to become the interim Prime Minister of Nepal after KP Sharma Oli resigned on Tuesday amid the violent protests of ‘Gen Z’ against the ban of 26 social media platforms in the nation, as per the media reports.
The protests ignited when the Nepalese government imposed a ban on 26 social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, Snapchat, Reddit, and X, among others, for not registering under the new regulations.
The protestors came onto the streets and marched towards the parliament with placards reading ‘Shut down corruption and not social Media’ and ‘Youth against Corruption’.
The social media platforms were restored on the night of Monday (September 8, 2025), before Oli’s resignation, after the protests claimed the lives of at least 19 individuals.
Nepal will shortly announce the next Prime Minister.
