Bangladesh’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has recently dismissed India’s concerns regarding the safety of minority communities, calling the statements “misrepresentations” of the actual situation. This dispute comes amid rising reports of attacks against Hindus, raising questions about the government’s commitment to protecting its minorities.

Bangladesh’s Response to Indian Concerns

The official statement from Dhaka labeled India’s remarks as exaggerated and misleading. The ministry argued that isolated criminal incidents are being portrayed as systematic persecution, creating a distorted narrative that fuels anti-Bangladesh sentiment in parts of India. The government emphasized Bangladesh’s longstanding tradition of communal harmony and denied any targeted campaign against minority groups.

Claims of Bias & Misrepresentation

Dhaka’s response highlighted what it called selective reporting, accusing Indian media and officials of amplifying incidents to shape public perception. According to Bangladesh, this portrayal unfairly paints the country as hostile toward Hindus, even though the incidents cited are isolated and not representative of broader societal trends.

Reports Highlighting Minority Vulnerability

Contradicting Dhaka’s assertions, the Human Rights Congress for Bangladesh Minorities (HRCBM) has documented a surge in attacks on Hindus. Between June and December 2025, 73 blasphemy-related cases were reported across 32 districts.

The report details instances of beatings, lynching, and illegal seizure of property, underlining that minorities are increasingly vulnerable to harassment and violence.

What is the Role of Blasphemy Allegations

HRCBM’s findings suggest that false accusations of blasphemy are often used to settle personal disputes, target property, or intimidate communities. These allegations, while sometimes framed as religious concerns, frequently serve as tools for local power struggles, disproportionately affecting Hindus and leaving them exposed to harm.

Bangladesh: Accountability & Dialogue

The growing tension between Dhaka and New Delhi underscores the urgent need for transparency and effective protection of minority communities. Addressing the incidents, ensuring justice for victims and fostering cross-border dialogue can help counter misinformation and reinforce trust between the two nations. Without concrete measures, the narrative of hostility may continue to overshadow Bangladesh’s claims of harmony.
