After 179 Years, Scientific American Endorses Second Time For Kamala Harris

Magazine’s Second-Ever Endorsement Highlights Policy Differences

In a significant political move, Scientific American magazine has endorsed Kamala Harris for the 2024 presidential election. This marks the magazine’s second endorsement in its 179-year history, following its first endorsement in 2020 for Joe Biden.

Support for Science and Policy

The prestigious science publication praised Harris for her commitment to advancing reproductive rights, combating climate change, and improving the healthcare system. The magazine’s editors lauded Harris for her reliance on facts, logic, and a willingness to learn from experience. They emphasized her advocacy for clean energy, climate crisis management, and increased employment opportunities through science-based policies.

Sharp Critique of Donald Trump

Scientific American strongly criticized former President Donald Trump’s record. The magazine highlighted Trump’s “disastrous” tenure, pointing out his attempts to cut Medicare and Medicaid, spread misinformation about abortion, and dismantle environmental policies. In contrast, Harris’s policies aim to expand healthcare access through the Affordable Care Act, support reproductive rights, and continue efforts to reduce environmental damage and promote clean energy.

The magazine also noted that many observers, including some of Trump’s allies, believe Harris performed better in the recent presidential debate. The op-ed criticized Trump’s false claims about abortion policies, describing them as misleading and damaging.

The endorsement comes as a critical moment in the election campaign, showcasing a clear contrast between the two candidates on key issues.
