Addressing the nation on the occasion of International Yoga Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said that coronavirus could be defeated by strengthening respiratory system by practising yoga exercises like Pranayama. Talking about the importance and need of yoga, especially during a global pandemic, he said that the world had been realising the importance of yoga even more due to this pandemic and if our immunity was made strong, we could easily defeat the disease.

Stressing on the need to strengthen the respiratory system, PM Modi said, “All the techniques and forms of Yoga help a lot in boosting both our respiratory and immune systems. A large number of Covid-19 patients, all over the world are resorting to these toga techniques today and the power of yoga is helping them to defeat this disease. It helps to boost our confidence and morale so that we can overcome crises and win apart from developing discipline and stamina.”

While referring to yoga as a force of unity and a bond of humanity, he added that yoga didn’t discriminate and it was beyond race, colour, gender, faith and nations. Emphasising on the need of yoga for every individual, he asked everyone to pledge to do everything possible for our health and also the health of our loved ones.” We should try to do Yoga at home with family and make it a part of our lives and if we are able to do this then we will certainly succeed and emerge as victorious,” he said.
