Women in Uniform: Breaking barriers and inspiring change

This week on We Women Want, we talk to women in uniform, both the women in the Navy who have breached the glass ceiling as well as women in the police force. From the Navy, we have Surgeon Commander Shazia Khan, Lt Commander Annu Prakash, Lt Commander Prerna Deosthalee, and Lt Commander Soam. We have Geeta Rani Verma – Addl Cp (Traffic) Delhi Police And Suman Nalwa – Dcp & Pro Delhi Police from the Delhi police.
They talk about life in the forces, the work-life choices they have made, and the reactions of their families. The women are feisty and confident, and as they point out, they are perfectly capable of living in a man’s world and delivering even better than the men. Moreover, there are some tasks that require gender sensitization that women can perform better than men.
We Women Want is a weekly show that explores issues that concern most women across demographics. The show has dealt with issues ranging from body shaming, domestic violence, laws that help women (and also those that don’t), women’s health from reproduction to menstruation, including breast cancer and IVF, acid attack survivors, domestic violence, and women in the workplace. The show, moderated by Priya Sahgal, Senior Executive Editor at ITV Network, is fast becoming a support group for women.
