New Delhi: Priya Sahgal, Editorial Director at NEWSX, was among the prominent women honoured at the 19th edition of the International Women’s Day Awards held at the Embassy of Nepal in New Delhi on Monday.
The awards, hosted by Mrs Ratan Kaul and organised by the Public Diplomacy Forum, celebrated women achievers from diverse fields who have made notable contributions in their respective domains. Congress MP Dr Shashi Tharoor attended the event as the chief guest in the presence of Nepal’s Ambassador to India, H.E. Dr Shankar P. Sharma.
The evening began with a panel discussion titled “Stories, Literature & the Arts: Women Holding Up Half the Sky”, chaired by Sanjoy K. Roy. The discussion featured Ambassador Sharma alongside Nelofar Currimbhoy, Smita Tharoor, Priya Sahgal, Kuwarani Dr Ritu Singh and author Amrita Tripathi, who spoke about women’s contributions to literature, arts and public life.
Observed globally on 8 March, International Women’s Day highlights the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The event in the capital recognised women across professions who have excelled in their fields while inspiring others to pursue similar paths.
Among the key honours of the evening, philanthropist and art patron Kiran Nadar received the Lifetime Achievement Award.
Other awardees included Aakasha Kohli for Gourmet Services, Ameena Qureshi for Salon and Wellness, Amrita Tripathi for Author, Geetika Lidder for Education, Jayasri Burman for Visual Artist Maestro, Malvika Joshi for Motivational Speaker, Monika Saxena for Sports, Preeti Singh for Sansad TV, Priya Sahgal for Editorial Director NEWSX, Radhika Kapur for Entrepreneurship, Renni Jjoy for Impressario, Ruchika Mehta for Editor and Swati Bhargava for Entrepreneurship.
Speaking on the occasion, Mrs Kaul said the initiative seeks to recognise the resilience and achievements of women who have excelled despite challenges.
“This celebration recognises and applauds the indomitable spirit and courage shown by women across fields who have excelled and achieved their goals despite all odds. Our platform is committed to recognising achievers and encouraging that spirit by honouring them,” she said.
Co-host Dhruv Wanchoo said the awards aim to acknowledge the significant contributions made by women in society and provide a platform to celebrate their accomplishments.
The event, now in its 19th edition, has become a notable fixture in New Delhi’s cultural calendar, bringing together figures from diplomatic, cultural, business and political circles to celebrate women’s achievements.
