On the occasion of India’s 75th Republic Day celebration, a significant focus was placed on themes like ‘Nari Shakti’ (Women’s Power) and ‘Viksit Bharat’ (Developed India). Notably, the Republic Day parade saw a groundbreaking moment as 100 women took the lead, heralding the procession by playing traditional musical instruments such as the ‘Sankh,’ ‘Nadaswaram,’ and ‘Nagada’ for the first time.
Adding to the celebration of women’s achievements, an all-women tri-service contingent marched proudly along the Kartavya Path. The Indian Air Force’s fly-past featured approximately 15 women pilots, symbolizing the strength and prowess of ‘Nari Shakti’ in the defense forces.
Further highlighting the role of women in various sectors, the contingents of the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) exclusively comprised women personnel. The Republic Day parade showcased 26 tableaux, each emphasizing the theme of women’s empowerment. The Manipur tableau, for instance, depicted women engaged in delicate work with lotus stems, showcasing their indispensable contributions to socio-economic endeavors. Additionally, the tableau featured women skillfully riding boats. Positioned behind the Manipur tableau was a replica of ‘Ima Keithel,’ an iconic all-women market with a rich history spanning several centuries, where women have been the sole operators. This representation underscored the enduring legacy and resilience of women in diverse facets of Indian society.
