Lt Cdr Dilna K and Lt Cdr Roopa A of the Indian Navy accomplished a significant feat by concluding a transoceanic voyage on board the INSV Tarini, which was warmly received at INS Mandovi, Goa on April 21. The reception was led by the Commanding Officer of INS Mandovi and the Naval Station Commander North Goa.
Two women officers, Lieutenant Commander Dilna K and Lieutenant Commander Roopa A, hailing from the Indian Navy, have achieved a remarkable milestone in India’s maritime pursuits as they successfully concluded a momentous transoceanic expedition aboard the Indian Naval Sailing Vessel (INSV) Tarini.
Their remarkable achievement represents a significant milestone, making them the first Indians to attain such a feat,” stated the Navy on Monday.
Setting sail from INS Mandovi, Goa on February 28, the INSV Tarini commenced its journey towards Port Louis, Mauritius. Following a 22-day navigation, the vessel reached its destination on March 21. During their visit to Port Louis, Lieutenant Commander Dilna and Lieutenant Commander Roopa participated in a training exercise alongside members of the Mauritius Coast Guard, promoting mutual goodwill and cooperation between the two maritime nations.
Following a demanding schedule in Mauritius, the officers commenced their journey back to Goa on March 30, encountering challenges such as heavy winds, adverse sea states, and rough seas along the way.
INSV Tarini received a warm welcome upon its return to INS Mandovi, Goa on April 21, with the reception led by the Commanding Officer of INS Mandovi and the Naval Station Commander North Goa. The statement praised the officers for their exceptional seamanship and resilience, highlighting their embodiment of the adventurous spirit and commitment to exploration.
After undergoing a rigorous selection process over the past two and a half years, the officers prepared extensively for their recent expedition. Prior to this, they completed a voyage from Goa to Mauritius and back in 2022, followed by a journey from Goa to Rio de Janeiro via Cape Town and back last year.
The statement also revealed that the two officers are now gearing up for their next monumental voyage, a circumnavigation of the globe known as Sagar Parikrama, scheduled to commence aboard INSV Tarini in September this year.
