Incidents of crimes against women in the state show no signs of abating. Despite significant directives from Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma after the BJP government came to power, crimes against women continue to persist. In the latest shocking incident, a woman travelling in a public transport bus from Jaipur to Bharatpur faced three instances of sexual assault by the conductor on Monday night. Bayana ASP Omprakash Kilaniya reported that the woman intended to travel to Bharatpur, but the conductor diverted the bus route to Bayana and, after duping her, allowed her to board an empty bus for the second time. Subsequently, he raped her on the bus through intimidation and threats. The woman reported the incident to the Bayana police on Tuesday morning. ASP Kilaniya explained that the woman had travelled to Jaipur in search of employment three days ago. Unable to find work, she decided to return to her village in Deeg on Monday evening. She boarded a public transport bus from the Transport Nagar Chowrah in Jaipur, where the conductor, identified as Jitendra (32), claimed the bus was headed to Bharatpur. Trusting his words, she boarded the bus. Around 9 pm, the bus reached Mahua, and the woman realized that it was not going to Bharatpur but Bayana. When she questioned the conductor, he assured her he would safely drop her off at her destination and advised her to remain seated. The woman, relying on his assurance, continued her journey. The bus reached the Bayana bus stand around 11 pm. At this point, the conductor insisted on her getting off the bus and offered to provide her with a meal. As she began to alight, he forced her back into the bus and reiterated the promise of a safe drop-off. However, he took advantage of the situation and raped her during the night. The 30-year-old woman, a resident of Deeg in Dausa district, has lodged a complaint against the conductor, identified as Jitendra Gurjar, from Veer Thana. The police seized the bus and sent the victim for a medical examination at a community health centre. The accused conductor has been taken into custody. An FIR has been filed against him based on the victim’s statement, and he is being charged with rape. Deputy SP Anita Meena also visited the police station upon receiving the information. The police are taking prompt action in response to the victim’s report, and further investigations are underway.
