India recorded 69,921 new cases of coronavirus in the past 24 hours, taking its total caseload to 3,691,166. With 818 fatalities reported, India’s death toll has breached the 65,000 mark, at 65,435. The five most affected states by total tally of cases remains Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Uttar Pradesh. Coronavirus cases in Maharashtra have risen to 8,08,306 with 15,765 new cases; death toll reaches 24,903 with 320 new fatalities in last twenty-four hours.
With 2,312 fresh Covid-19 cases in 24 hours, the national capital saw its highest single-day spike in nearly two months. This was the highest daily figures in the national capital since 4 July, when 2,505 cases were reported. The total number of people who have tested positive for Covid-19 in Delhi has crossed 1.77 lakh, while the death toll has mounted to 4,462. Eighteen deaths have been recorded in the last 24 hour. The number of active cases in the city rose to 15,879.
Meanwhile, neighbouring state Haryana reported 1,694 new cases and 17 deaths in last twenty-four hours. Total number of cases now at 66,426 including 53,835 recoveries, 11,885 active cases and 706 deaths.
Punjab reported 1,522 fresh coronavirus cases in last twenty-four hours. The total number of positive cases in the state now stands at 55,508, including 15,849 active cases, 38,147 discharged patients and 1,512 deaths.
Andhra Pradesh reported 10,368 new Covid-19 cases, taking the state’s tally to 4,45,139. The death toll rises to 4,053 with 84 patients succumbing to death in last 24 hours.
Karnataka reported a spike of 9,058 new Covid-19 cases and 135 related fatalities, taking the total number of infections to 3,51,481 and death toll to 5,837. The day also saw 5,159 patients getting discharged after recovery. Out of 9,058 fresh cases reported, 2,967 cases were from Bengaluru Urban alone.
Tamil Nadu reported 5,928 new Covid-19 cases pushing the tally to 4,33,969, while the death toll stood at 7,418 with 96 more fatalities. With 6,031 recoveries, the active cases stood at 52,379 and in total 3,74,172 people have got cured. Out of the over 5,900 new infections, the state capital Chennai shared 1,084 and the remainder was scattered across Tamil Nadu.
Uttar Pradesh reported 5,571 new coronavirus cases in last twenty-four hours, which took the total tally to 2,35,757. Currently active cases in the state stands at 55,538. The death toll rose to 3,542 after 56 more deaths were reported in a single day.
Jharkhand registered its highest single-day spike of 3,331 Covid-19 cases, which pushed the tally in the state to 41,769. The death toll rose to 423 after 13 more people— six in Jamshedpur and four in Ranchi—succumbed to the infection.
West Bengal reported 2,943 new Covid-19 cases, 3,346 discharges & 55 deaths in last twenty-four hours. Total number of Covid-19 cases stands at 1,65,721 in the state.
Gujarat reported its highest single-day spike of 1,310 coronavirus infections which raised the tally of cases in the state to 97,745. With 14 new fatalities, the death toll due to the pandemic rose to 3,036. Meanwhile, 1,131 patients were discharged from hospitals, so the number of recovered patients rose to 78,913. The recovery rate in Gujarat now is 80.73 per cent.
