India’s Covid-19 caseload rose to 72,39,389, with 63,509 cases of the infection being reported in a day. The recovery rate also reached 87.05%, as the number of people who have recuperated from the disease crossed 63 lakhs, according to data updated by the Health Ministry on Wednesday.
The coronavirus death toll also climbed to 1,10,586 with the virus claiming 730 lives in a span of 24 hours, the data update showed. The 730 new fatalities include 187 from Maharashtra, 87 from Karnataka, 62 from West Bengal, 57 from Tamil Nadu, 45 from Delhi, 35 from Andhra Pradesh and 34 from Punjab. The Covid-19 fatality rate was recorded at 1.53%.
The data also stated that, for six days in a row, active cases of Covid-19 remained below 9 lakhs. There are 8,26,876 active cases of coronavirus infection in the country, which comprises 11.42 percent of the total caseload, while recoveries have surged to 63,01,927, the data said. According to the ICMR, a cumulative total of 9,00,90,122 samples has been tested till October 13, with 11,45,015 samples tested on Tuesday. Civic-run Hindu Rao Hospital, where resident doctors are currently agitating over unpaid salaries, was removed from the list of Covid-19 facilities by the Delhi government on Tuesday. North Delhi Mayor Jai Prakash said that the general OPD services resumed at the facility and nearly «160 patients visited”. The Delhi government’s health department, in an order issued on Tuesday, said that, in view of the surge in Covid-19 cases then, Hindu Rao Hospital had been declared a designated hospital on June 14, «and whereas a request has been received from the Commissioner, North Delhi Municipal Corporation for converting the Bara Hindu Rao Hospital to a non-Covid hospital”.
The neighbouring state of Haryana reported 1,205 fresh coronavirus cases, taking the tally to 1,45,507 on Wednesday, while 13 more Covid-19 fatalities pushed the state’s death toll to 1,614. Of the latest coronavirus fatalities reported from the state, four deaths were in Hisar, three in Panchkula, two each in Faridabad and Rohtak and one death each in Gurugram and Bhiwani, according to the state health department’s daily bulletin.
Mumbai reported 1,325 new Covid-19 cases on Tuesday, taking its count of infections to 2,32,395. 38 deaths in the city took the death toll to 9,504. However, with 2,354 people being discharged after treatment in the day, the number of recoveries also rose to 1,98,127. Mumbai’s case recovery rate now stands at 85%, although the number of active cases stands at 21,841. Meanwhile, the average growth rate of cases dropped to 0.98% and the average doubling rate increased to over 77 days. 12.80 lakh samples have been tested so far.
In Andhra Pradesh, 3,892 fresh coronavirus cases were reported on Wednesday, as the aggregate went up to 7,67,465 in the state. The latest bulletin reported that 5,050 patients recovered in 24 hours on Wednesday, taking their overall count to 7,19,477.
