Coronavirus cases in India rose past the 92-lakh mark, at a time when state governments are stressing on the need to maintain their guard against Covid-19. India reported 44,376 new cases in 24 hours, taking the total tally near 92.2 lakh in the world’s second-worst infected country, according to the Health Ministry. That includes over 86.4 lakh recoveries and more than 1.4 lakh deaths. Active cases rose above 4.4 lakh onWednesday, after falling to 4.3 lakh on Tuesday. India reported a higher number of fresh cases compared to recoveries for the third time in a week, raising concerns of a renewed surge.

Delhi recorded 5,246 fresh Covid-19 cases in a day, taking the total number of cases so far to 5,45,787 as the positivity rate declined 8.49 per cent, while 99 more fatalities pushed the city›s death toll to 8,720 on November 25. Meanwhile 5,361 people were discharged taking the toll of recoveries in the state to 4,98,780 cases. It was after five days that the national capital recorded single-day death toll below 100. As many as 61,778 tests, including 26,080 RT-PCR ones, were conducted on Tuesday for the detection of COVID-19. Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday requested experts to audit COVID-19 death cases and suggest measures to reduce fatalities in the national capital, amid a spurt in the infections in the city.

Haryana recorded 42 coronavirus-related deaths on Wednesday, its highest single-day fatality count so far, pushing the toll to 2,291 while 2,197 fresh cases took the state’s infection tally to 2,24,489.
