After adding 90,802 new Covid cases to its tally, India has now overtaken Brazil to become the second worst-hit country in the world with over 42 lakh cases of coronavirus. Only the United States is ahead of India in Covid numbers.

Continuing its abysmal performance, the country added more than 90,000 Covid cases for the second consecutive day in a row. Out of the 42,04,614 total cases, over 32 lakh patients have been discharged, while nearly 8.9 lakh infections are still active. The death toll in the country now stands at 71,642 as 1,016 deaths were reported in the last twenty-four hours.

 Delhi recorded 2,077 fresh Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours while the death toll mounted to 4,599. Also, 32 fresh fatalities were recorded in a single day.

Uttar Pradesh recorded 56 more deaths due to Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, taking the state’s death toll to 3,976, while 5,649 fresh cases pushed the tally to 2,71,851. The case fatality rate here stands at 1.46 percent. There are 62,144 active cases in the state. Gujarat’s tally rose to 1,05,671 with 1,330 new cases. 15 more deaths pushed the total number of fatalities in the state to 3,123.

Madhya Pradesh reported as many as 1,885 new Covid-19 cases and 17 deaths in the last 24 hours, taking active cases to 16,961, recoveries to 56,909 and death toll to 1,589.

Haryana reported 23 more deaths due to coronavirus. Another big spike of 2,224 cases pushed the infection count in the state to 78,773. The total number of fatalities in the state now stands at 829. Uttarakhand recorded 807 new cases in the last 24 hours. 473 people also recovered from the disease. The total cases in the state now stand at 25,436, including 17,046 recoveries and 348 deaths.

Coronavirus surge in southern states continued as Tamil Nadu reported 5,776 new Covid-19 cases, 5,930 discharges and 89 deaths in the last 24 hours, taking active cases to 51,215, recoveries to 4,10,116 and death toll to 7,925. Karnataka breached four lakh cases with 5,773 new cases and 141 deaths in the last 24 hours, taking active cases to 97,001. There have been 3,00,770 r e c ove r i e s a n d 6, 5 3 4 deaths here.The total tally is now at 4,04,324.

 Andhra Pradesh crossed the five-lakh mark in Covid-19 cases. As many as 8,368 cases were added in the last 24 hours. The state’s total tally rose to 5,06,493. Around 70 more people died, pushing the death toll to 4,487.

 Telangana reported 1,802 new Covid-19 cases, taking the tally to 1,42,771 while nine more deaths pushed the death toll to 895. Kerala reported 1,648 new Covid-19 positive cases and 2,246 recoveries. Active number of cases is now at 22,066. As many as 67,001 patients have also recovered here.
