Coronavirus cases in India rose to 93,92,919 with 41,810 new infections in the last 24 hours. A total of 496 people died in the last 24 hours, and the number of active cases went down by 984. There are 4,53,956 active cases in the country. Over 42,000 people recovered from the deadly disease in the last 24 hours, taking the total recoveries to over 88 lakh. The Indian Council of Medical Research said, “13,95,03,803 samples have been tested for Covid-19 up to 28 November. Of these, 12,83,449 samples were tested on Saturday.”
Meanwhile, the Serum Institute will apply within two weeks for an emergency use license of the coronavirus vaccine, which is being developed by the University of Oxford and pharma giant AstraZeneca, said the vaccine maker’s chief Adar Poonawalla on Saturday after a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“As of now, we don’t have anything in writing with the Government of India around how many doses they will purchase but the indication is that it would be 300-400 million doses by July 2021. We are in the process of applying in the next two weeks for the emergency use,” he said.
The National Capital reported 4,906 fresh Covid-19 cases, 6325 people discharged, and 68 died in the last 24 hours, taking the total tally to over 5.66 lakh.
Maharashtra reported 5,544 new coronavirus cases, taking the tally to 18,20,059. The death count in the state has gone up by 85 to 47,071. Out of which Mumbai reported 940 fresh Covid-19 cases, 515 people discharged, and 18 died in the last 24 hours.
Tamil Nadu reported 1,459 new coronavirus cases, 1,471 people discharged, and nine died in the last 24 hours. West Bengal’s Covid-19 tally rose to 4,80,813 with 3,367 new cases, and 54 fatalities pushed the death count to 8,376.
Kerala registered 5,643 fresh Covid-19 cases on Sunday, taking the total caseload to almost six lakh. The death count mounted to 2,223 with 27 fatalities. A total of 5,861 patients have been cured of the infection, and 5,32,658 have recovered while 64,589 people are undergoing treatment. The total number of cases has touched 5.99 lakh in the state.
