India’s tally of Covid-19 cases rose to 1,08,26,363 with 12,059 new infections being reported in a day, while the daily deaths fell below 100 for the third time this month on Sunday. The death toll increased to 1,54,996 with 78 daily new fatalities, the lowest recorded after nine months. The number of people who have recuperated from the disease surged to 1,05,22,601, pushing the national Covid-19 recovery rate of 97.20% while the case fatality rate stands at 1.43%. The coronavirus active caseload remained below two lakh. There are 1,48,766 active coronavirus infections in the country which comprises 1.37% of the total caseload.

 India has become the third topmost country in the world in terms of the number of Covid-19 vaccine doses administered on Sunday. Only the United States and the United Kingdom are ahead of India. “The cumulative vaccination coverage includes 53,04,546 healthcare workers and 4,70,776 frontline workers”, said the ministry.  Delhi reported a total of 119 new coronavirus infections, and 179 discharges in the last 24 hours. The corresponding period also witnessed the death of two persons infected with the disease.

 In Maharashtra, 37,862 people were vaccinated on Saturday, taking the overall tally to 4.72 lakh. Meanwhile, Maharashtra reported 2,768 new Covid-19 infections, taking the tally of cases to 20,41,398. It has 34,934 active cases.  Manipur reported nine new coronavirus infections in the last 24 hours. The state health department also confirmed that 18 patients had recovered or were discharged in the corresponding period.

 Kerala, which has been reporting the highest number of new cases over the past several days, reported a total of 6,075 new Covid-19 infections in the last 24 hours. The corresponding period also witnessed 5,948 recoveries and 19 deaths.

Odisha›s coronavirus caseload on Sunday rose to 3,35,620 after 72 more people tested positive for the infection. The death toll remained unchanged at 1,909 as no fresh fatality was reported since Saturday.

Meghalaya recorded a total of 24 new cases on Saturday, pushing the tally to 13,845. The north-eastern state now has 102 active cases. Three patients were cured of the disease during the day, taking the total number of recoveries to 13,596. So far, 147 people have died.
