In a suspected case of “witchcraft” for finding a “hidden treasure”, four members of a family were found dead under mysterious circumstances at their residence in Nagapur village of Revally mandal in Wanaparty district on Friday.

Police suspect a case of mass suicide under the garb of black magic or some other superstition as they found lemons, coconuts and other ritual-related materials near the dead bodies. They also noticed a few pits in and around the house reportedly dug for finding treasure.

The deceased were identified as Hazira Begum (63), her daughter Asma Begum (35), son-in-law Khawaja Pasha (42) and granddaughter Haseena (11). The bodies were found lying at different parts of the house. Hazira Begum was a quack, who used to give Unani medicines to the locals suffering from ill health. A case of death poison is being considered because there was froth foaming out from the mouth of all bodies.

Wanaparthy Superintendent of Police Apoorva Rao, who rushed to the spot, said that bodies were found lying at different places in the house. “Khaza was found dead on the veranda of the house, next to a pit he was allegedly digging for treasure. Coconuts were found next to every dead body. There was froth in their mouths,” the SP said.
