A 17-year-old girl has been identified as the suspect in a shooting at Abundant Life Christian School in Madison, Wisconsin, on December 16, 2024. Authorities report that the suspect opened fire, killing a teen student and a teacher, and injuring six others, including two students with life-threatening injuries. The other injured victims, which include three students and a teacher, have already been released from the hospital.
The suspect, who was reportedly a student at the school, was found dead at the scene, with officials confirming that she died before authorities arrived. Madison Police Chief Shon Barnes expressed his sorrow, stating, “Today truly is a sad day for Madison and for our country,” adding that the motive for the attack is still unclear. The suspect’s family is cooperating with the investigation, but no prior signs of violence or contact with law enforcement have been reported. Barnes confirmed that the shooting was contained to one area, though he did not specify whether it took place in a classroom or hallway.
School officials said the event “rocked our school community” and confirmed there were no metal detectors or school resource officers present, though other security measures like visual scanning were in place.
