The upcoming winter session of Parliament is scheduled to begin on 4 December and continue till 22 December. An all-party meeting has been scheduled specifically for this purpose on 2 December.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Prahlad Joshi confirmed this on X, formerly Twitter. He tweeted that the session planned to hold 15 meetings in 19 days. Discussions on legislative business and other agenda items are eagerly awaited during this session amid Amrit Kaal. There is speculation that Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra’s “cash for query” report and the Assembly election results of the five states coming out on Sunday, 3 December, will dominate the winter session.

The Assembly election results of Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Mizoram and Telangana are expected to have a significant impact on the session, as the government aims to pass important bills.

The Ethics Committee report on “cash-for-query” allegations against Mahua Moitra will be presented in the Lok Sabha during this session.

Additionally, according to sources, the government is planning to introduce a bill to seek Parliament’s approval for adjustments in the Centre’s Rs 35 trillion spending program for the current fiscal year. Bills related to GST Appellate Tribunal and expenditure are likely to be discussed during the winter session.

Another important bill attracting attention in Parliament relates to the appointment of the Chief Election Commissioner and Election Commissioners.
There is a possibility that bills to amend the IPC, CrPC and the Evidence Act will be discussed during this session.

The winter session of Parliament will be held exclusively in the new building. In September this year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the new Parliament building.

The new Parliament complex, the centerpiece of the $2.4 billion project, is equipped with state-of-the-art technologies. It has a total of 1,272 seats across the two Houses, about 500 more than the old building, and enough space to accommodate new MPs in the world’s largest democracy.

The Women’s Reservation Bill has received the approval of President Droupadi Murmu and has now become a law.

Recently, MPs raised concerns about cyber security within the new Parliament House and urged banks to take necessary measures to protect the financial assets of the public.

They also stressed the urgency of increasing cyber security awareness across the country and proposed the development of a “Cyber Consciousness Index” to assess it.
