Canada will host next year’s G7 Summit in Alberta, as announced by its prime minister, Justin Trudeau, on the social media platform X.
When asked whether Canada will extend an invitation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the upcoming meeting, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau responded by stating that he can only provide information about the summit once Canada formally assumes the presidency.
“I can appreciate the keenness with which Canadians are looking forward to next year’s G7. However, Italy continues to be the President of this G7 for the rest of this year and I look forward to working with Prime Minister Meloni and all my G7 Partners on the broad range of issues that we’ve talked about,” PTI quoted Trudeau as saying.
About the summit to be held in Alberta’s Kananaskis in 2025, he said, “I will have more to say about next year’s G7 when we assume the G7 Presidency next year.”

PM Narendra Modi briefly interacted with Trudeau during the G7 summit. “Met Canadian PM @JustinTrudeau at the G7 Summit,” the prime minister’s one-line caption on X read.
Relations between India and Canada have become strained after Trudeau made a statement in the Canadian parliament about ‘credible allegations’ suggesting a potential link between Indian agents and the killing of Khalistan terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar in Surrey, British Columbia last June.
The Canadian Prime Minister has yet to provide any evidence to support his allegations regarding Nijjar’s killing. India has consistently protested to the Canadian government about pro-Khalistan elements finding refuge in the North American country, but Trudeau continues to ignore these concerns.
PM Modi received an invitation from Italian Premier Giorgia Meloni to attend the G7 Summit. The event featured the participation of the seven member countries—the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Japan, Italy, Germany, and France—along with the European Union.
During the G7 Summit held in Apulia, Italy, Modi engaged in bilateral meetings with UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, and French President Emmanuel Macron.
