Amidst an unprecedented heatwave gripping India, a unique marital dispute has come to light in Agra. The soaring temperatures have led to increased cases of heatstroke, with many fatalities reported. In this context, a disagreement between a husband and wife over the purchase of a cooler has garnered attention.
The couple, married in 2020, faced a breakdown of their cooler two months into their marriage. The wife, citing the unbearable heat, urged her husband to buy a new cooler immediately. The husband, however, requested patience, explaining that he would purchase the cooler as soon as he received his salary. This request did not sit well with the wife, leading to a heated argument. Frustrated, she left for her parents’ home in Sadar Bazaar, leaving the husband in Mantola.
The dispute escalated to the extent that intervention from a family counselling centre was sought. The centre, operational every Saturday and Sunday at Agra Police Line, recorded the case and provided mediation. Dr. Satish Khirwar, a counsellor at the centre, revealed details of the incident. According to Dr. Khirwar, the husband was committed to buying the cooler in early July, post his salary disbursement.
Despite the husband’s assurances, the wife’s frustration over the delay led her to leave their home. The counselling sessions aimed to bridge this communication gap and address the underlying issues. After much deliberation, the counselling centre advised the husband to prioritize installing the cooler to ensure a comfortable living environment for his wife.
