The government has announced the appointment of Air Marshal Amar Preet Singh, currently serving as the Vice Chief of the Air Staff, as the new Chief of the Air Staff. He will officially take on the rank of Air Chief Marshal from the afternoon of September 30, 2024.
Air Marshal Singh will succeed Air Chief Marshal Vivek Ram Chaudhari, PVSM, AVSM, VM, ADC, who is set to retire on the same day. The transition in leadership marks an important moment for the Indian Air Force (IAF).
Singh took over as the 47th Vice Chief of the Indian Air Force on February 1, 2023. His career with the IAF began in 1984 when he was commissioned into the fighter stream on December 21.
He has held several key positions, including Senior Air Staff Officer at the Eastern Air Command and Commander of the Central Air Command (CAC). Singh has also served as the Flight Commander and Commanding Officer of a MiG-27 squadron and as Air Officer Commanding at an air base.
An alumnus of the National Defence Academy, Defence Services Staff College, Wellington, and National Defence College, Singh’s contributions to the IAF have been recognized with prestigious awards. In 2019, he was honored with the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal, followed by the Param Vishisht Seva Medal in 2023.
