A shocking incident unfolded in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh, where a woman threw acid on a man during a meeting at a local restaurant. The incident has garnered significant attention, as it raises serious questions about blackmail, personal safety, and the lengths to which individuals may go when feeling threatened.
The confrontation occurred in the morning when the woman, who has requested anonymity, agreed to meet the man, identified as Vivek. According to reports, their meeting was prompted by ongoing threats and blackmailing from Vivek, who had allegedly promised to marry her. However, the woman had already moved on and married someone else.
During their conversation, the woman suddenly pulled out a bottle from her bag, opened the cap, and threw the liquid onto Vivek’s face, resulting in severe burn injuries. Eyewitnesses noted that after the incident, Vivek quickly removed his shirt and fled the scene before the police could arrive.
Following the attack, the woman explained her actions to the authorities, stating, “He was blackmailing me and asking for money. That’s why I threw acid on him. I didn’t marry him; I married someone else. I’m divorced. He told me he would marry me but kept threatening me.”
The restaurant manager recounted the events leading up to the attack, saying, “We had just opened the restaurant. When they came, we were cleaning. She was sitting outside and later came inside. Five minutes later, a man came to meet her. They ordered a dosa and chole bhature. I went for breakfast, and then a man came running and said, ‘Sir, please see what happened.’ I couldn’t understand what had happened, and then the woman said, ‘I threw acid on him.'”
The police have confirmed that both individuals were known to each other and had personal disputes. “The man and the woman knew each other and there were personal differences. The man is on the run,” said Assistant Commissioner of Police, Mayank Pathak. He further stated that it was too early to assess the veracity of the woman’s claims regarding the alleged blackmail, as the investigation is ongoing.
In addition to Vivek’s injuries, the woman also sustained burns in the incident, and she is currently receiving medical treatment. The police are making efforts to locate Vivek, who remains at large.
