To truly inculcate the idea of patriotism, we need to start from our homes by talking to kids and the youth about how important it is for everyone to love their country. The values of our country, culture and traditions should be talked about. Schools and colleges should have a healthy atmosphere which can somewhere inspire the youngsters to think about the country’s development first and then one’s development. —Vijayendra Kumeria

Patriotism is a feeling that should come from within and kudos to our Hindi films which show it in the right manner. Movies like ‘Rang De Basanti’ or ‘Chak De India!’ don’t show the freedom struggle but are patriotic at the same time. It awakens the feeling of wanting to do something for your country. I usually call friends over for a get-together and we all celebrate this day by watching such films. It’s great to celebrate our patriotism for the country. —Mohit Malhotra

I believe patriotism begins at home, as a kid, I used to watch movies on freedom struggle along with my parents. Even now I ardently watch such films and it has become a habit over time. My parents made me understand the meaning of patriotism and its importance at a young age. I love my country and would urge all parents to make their kids understand what it entails through small activities like keeping their house clean, not littering and helping others in need as all this counts as patriotism. —Sharad Malhotra

Independence Day is a significant event for all Indians as we get to connect with the nation in different ways. Some watch patriotic films at home while others celebrate it in their societies. The day begins with patriotic songs on the radio and people go out to meet friends or gather at home. I celebrate this day the same way and wish the best for my country. Nothing is more crucial than our country because if our country is safe, we are safe. —Sanjay Gandhi
