Abhishek Banerjee, the national general secretary of the Trinamool Congress, appeared before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) office in Kolkata on Wednesday after being called by the agency in relation to an alleged recruitment scam. The TMC MP was served with a summons a few weeks after federal investigators raided the office of “Leaps and Bounds Pvt Ltd,” which they claimed was “used for making dubious transactions amounting to crores of rupees.” Banerjee is allegedly the company’s CEO, according to the ED.
Reacting to the notice by the ED, the Trinamool leader said on Sunday that the notice required him to appear before the agency on September 13, the very day when the Opposition INDIA bloc’s coordination committee is scheduled to meet in Delhi.
Banerjee is a member of the INDIA grouping’s coordination committee and was scheduled to attend the meeting today.
Today in the nation’s capital, at Sharad Pawar, the leader of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), residence, the Coordination Committee of the INDIA alliance will hold its inaugural meeting. The Opposition alliance announced a 14-member coordination committee at its third meeting, held on September 1 in Mumbai, but has not yet selected a convener.
