West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose criticized the Kolkata Police on Thursday, accusing them of being politicized and criminalized. During a visit to RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, which had been vandalized by a mob protesting the rape and murder of a female trainee doctor, Bose expressed his shock and outrage.

“What I witnessed, heard, and was told, as well as what has been reported, is deeply shocking and deplorable. This incident is a grave disgrace to Bengal, India, and humanity at large. It represents a severe moral decline,” Bose declared.

He further stated, “The very guardians of the law have become conspirators. Certain sections of the police have become politicized and criminalized. This corruption must end… The government is accountable for this situation. The primary responsibility rests with them. We need security so that people can feel safe when going to work at night… What we are witnessing is nothing short of a bloodbath.”

Addressing the students directly, Bose promised, “You will get justice. I am here to listen to you personally and stand with you. We will fight this together and overcome it.” He added, “We will not tolerate such horrific acts against our women in the state. We stand united and will address this issue everywhere.”

Assuring that action would be taken swiftly, he said, “I will dedicate myself to serving you. Our society in Bengal must become one where women can live happily and securely.”

When questioned about the mob’s actions during the vandalism, Bose stated, “I will consult with the police to assess the situation. I will discuss it with you, and only then will we decide on the course of action.”

Earlier, Kolkata Police had clarified that the crime scene related to the rape and murder of the trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College had not been compromised during the vandalism. The police issued a statement on ‘X’, saying, “The crime scene, which is the seminar room, remains intact. Please refrain from spreading unverified information. Legal action will be taken against those spreading rumors.”

The incident had prompted widespread protests from doctors and medical professionals nationwide. On August 9, the victim, a post-graduate trainee doctor, was found dead in the seminar hall of RG Kar Medical College, with her family alleging she had been raped and murdered.
