A notification has been issued by the West Bengal government declaring a holiday the day after Christmas on 26 December. This will be a state holiday.
Meanwhile, the notification stated, “The holiday will be for the state government offices, local bodies, statuary bodies, boards, corporations, and undertakings controlled or owned by the state government, educational institutions and other offices and institutions under the control of the state government with the exception of the offices of Registrar of Assurance, Kolkata and Collector of Stamp Revenue, Kolkata.”
Moreover, 25 December is celebrated as Christmas to mark the birth of Jesus Christ. Across the world, Christmas is celebrated by the Christian community and other communities on a huge scale.
However, the festival is celebrated to spread the message of peace and prosperity by exchanging gifts and singing carols.
