'We Will Never Let Our Land Be Used Against India' : Sri Lankan President 

Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake assured India on Monday that Sri Lanka will not allow its territory to be used against India’s interests

During his first bilateral visit to New Delhi, he made this commitment after talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Hyderabad House

“I have given an assurance to the Prime Minister that we will not allow our land to be used in a manner detrimental to India,” Dissanayake said

Modi emphasized their interconnected security interests, announcing plans to finalize a defense cooperation agreement soon

The joint statement highlighted their shared commitment to a “safe and secure Indian Ocean Region,” underscoring collaboration on maritime security, joint exercises, and defence platform 

The two leaders also addressed fishermen’s disputes, agreeing on a “humanitarian approach” for a durable solution to protect livelihoods.

Economic cooperation emerged as a key focus, with plans for investment-led growth and enhanced connectivity

Modi announced initiatives like electricity grid connectivity, multi-product petroleum pipelines, and LNG supply to Sri Lanka

“We have decided that physical, digital, and energy connectivity will be the pillars of our partnership,” Modi said

The visit marks a renewed commitment to strengthening bilateral ties through security, economic collaboration, and regional stability, signaling a deeper alignment in the Indian Ocean Region
