In her campaign for the Wayanad Lok Sabha by-polls, Congress candidate Priyanka Gandhi Vadra underscored the need to boost agriculture and tourism in the region. She asserted that both sectors are crucial for Wayanad’s economic progress and that efforts should be directed towards improving farmers’ livelihoods and creating more opportunities in these areas. “I believe our focus should be on food processing, supporting farmers, and promoting tourism,” she stated, adding that these initiatives could greatly enhance Wayanad’s future prospects.
Continuing Rahul Gandhi’s Efforts
Priyanka Gandhi pledged to carry forward the work initiated by Rahul Gandhi, who previously represented Wayanad in the Lok Sabha. She emphasized her commitment to addressing the issues he has championed and promised to continue his advocacy for the region’s welfare.
Speaking to ANI, Priyanka expressed her gratitude to the people of Wayanad for their support and assured them she would not let them down. She stressed that Wayanad has significant scope for development in agriculture, especially in food processing and marketing, and pledged to focus on these areas to create substantial impact.
Priyanka also highlighted the potential for tourism in Wayanad, noting the presence of cultural and religious sites, including mosques, temples, and churches, that could attract visitors. She called for improved infrastructure to unlock this potential, emphasizing that tourism could play a vital role in the region’s economic growth. She praised Wayanad’s diverse community, which she described as living harmoniously and upholding unity and constitutional values, and expressed deep honor in the prospect of representing the constituency.
Upcoming Contest for Wayanad Seat
The by-poll for Wayanad, a traditional Congress stronghold, will see Priyanka Gandhi contest against BJP’s Navya Haridas and Left Democratic Front (LDF) candidate Sathyan Mokeri. This election was prompted by Rahul Gandhi’s decision to retain his Rae Bareli seat after winning both constituencies in the recent general elections. The Wayanad by-election is set for November 13.
