A common belief today is that owners of specific SUVs tend to be aggressive, often getting into altercations. A recent road rage incident seems to reflect this stereotype.

A viral video on X shows several men from a Mahindra Thar attacking a cab that had allegedly rear-ended their vehicle. The footage captures at least four individuals repeatedly kicking and punching the Maruti Swift cab, urging the driver to exit. As the cab driver remained inside, the Thar occupants shifted to attempting to break his car’s windows and windshield in frustration.

One individual was seen trying to calm the group, directing them back to the Thar, which was parked mid-road. Eventually, the cab driver reversed and quickly fled the scene.

Social media users expressed little surprise that the aggressors were Thar owners. Rattan Dhillon, who shared the undated video on X, remarked, “Nothing surprising when it comes to Thar owners.”

The video has reignited discussions on stereotypes linked to certain car brands.

X user Ishwar Singh commented, “Two most violent creatures on planet: Thar Owners and Noida Dog Owners.”

Another user mentioned other cars associated with similar stereotypes, including “Thar, Innova, and Fortuner.”

Udit Bhandari added, “High on booze and testosterone, low on brains and civility.” Another user observed, “Divided by languages but united as Thar owners. All over India, they’re behaving like this only.”

Some, however, argued against generalizations, stating not all Thar owners should be judged the same. As X user Ankit pointed out, “Stereotyping is bad; there’s nothing wrong with Mahindra Thar or Hyundai Creta owners. It’s all about people. Even the most sophisticated car owners have been caught behaving in a nasty manner. Bigger cars warrant bigger responsibilities, which no one realises.”
