Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw visited the Kanchenjunga Express train accident site in Darjeeling district on a bike. He has arrived at the accident site in Rangapani, West Bengal, and assured that the Railway Commission will carry out a thorough investigation.

At least nine passengers lost their lives and 41 others were injured when three rear coaches of the stationary Sealdah-bound Kanchanjunga Express derailed this morning after being struck from behind by a goods train. Officials fear the death toll may rise as multiple state and central agencies work to rescue passengers who may still be trapped.

The accident has resulted in the cancellation of 19 trains along the New Jalpaiguri, Siliguri Junction, Bagdogra, and Aluabari Road routes. Both Up and Down lines are blocked, disrupting train services in the region and affecting long-distance travel connections from north Bengal and the northeastern states.
