A video showing water gushing from a road in Chandivali, Powai, Mumbai, has become a social media sensation, with users reacting with humor and disbelief. The footage, which depicts a substantial flow of water seemingly erupting from the pavement, led many to joke that Mumbai now has an impromptu fountain in the middle of a busy road.
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) quickly addressed the situation, clarifying that the water flow was part of a routine flushing operation intended to clean the main water pipeline.

Despite the BMC’s explanation, the video sparked a flurry of humorous comments online. One user quipped, “Hrithik Roshan will emerge from the fountain in roller skates,” referencing a scene from the Bollywood film Dhoom 2. Another user, who previously lived near the area, expressed a resigned sense of familiarity with such issues, while another humorously noted the lack of complaints being registered.
The viral video comes amidst a backdrop of severe weather conditions in Mumbai. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for the city, warning of heavy rains and strong winds. The Western Maharashtra region has been grappling with significant rainfall, leading to widespread flooding and waterlogging in areas including Thane, Pune, and Mumbai.
Mumbai Rains, a weather update handle on X, advised residents to avoid unnecessary travel in the afternoon and evening due to worsening weather conditions. The handle also issued a flood alert for Pune, noting that rivers are swelling due to increased water release from dams, and urged residents to stay safe amidst continuous heavy rainfall.
The ongoing monsoon has caused considerable disruptions, and authorities are closely monitoring the situation to manage the impacts on daily life.
