India’s Manu Bhaker and PR Sreejesh have been chosen as the official flag bearers for the closing ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympics. The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) recently honoured them for this prestigious role.

PR Sreejesh, the goalkeeper for the Indian Men’s Hockey Team, expressed his excitement, saying, “It is a great honour. It is my last tournament and I have got the opportunity to carry our flag in the closing ceremony.”

Olympics medalist Manu Bhaker shared her enthusiasm, stating, “I am very happy. Carrying the national flag in the closing ceremony will be an honor…”

Their selection as flag bearers highlights their exceptional contributions to Indian sports and represents a fitting tribute to their illustrious careers.

Manu Bhaker, who kicked off India’s medal tally with a bronze in the women’s individual 10m Air Pistol event and also secured a bronze in the 10m Air Pistol Mixed Team alongside Sarabjot Singh, will be the female flag bearer. PR Sreejesh, the esteemed goalkeeper for the Indian Men’s Hockey Team, will carry the flag as the male representative. Sreejesh, who was also a flag bearer at the closing ceremony of the Hangzhou Asian Games last year, shared his excitement.

The IOA’s announcement highlighted their pride in selecting these two distinguished athletes for the honour.

The closing ceremony, set to commence at midnight local time on Monday, will transition the Olympic baton from Paris to Los Angeles, marking the end of a captivating Summer Games. The ceremony will feature performances by prominent U.S. artists including Billie Eilish, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Snoop Dogg. Grammy-winning artist H.E.R. is also slated to perform the U.S. national anthem live. There is speculation that Tom Cruise might make an appearance as well.

This event will bring a close to two weeks of intense sporting competition that saw China and the United States battling for the top spot in the medal standings.
