Following a dramatic failed coup in South American country Bolivia, the country’s general Juan José Zúñiga along with ex-navy vice admiral Juan Arnez Salvador were detained by the police on Wednesday.
This failed coup comes into the fore amidst the time, when current president Arce and ex-president Evo Morales are engaged in a power struggle within socialist party. Thus, adding to Bolivia’s existing political instability.
The attempted coup drew a huge backlash from both domestic and international leaders. President Arce decisively addressed the situation by directly engaging with Zúñiga and issuing orders for the troops to withdraw.
But despite the presence of political instability, there was next to nil support for this act, and even Arce rivals expressed the need to defend democracy at this hour.

On June 26, 2024, Bolivia’s General Juan Jose Zuniga along with army units attempted a military coup in the country, by entering Plaza Murillo and storming the presidential palace.
As per Zuniga, he wanted to ‘restore democracy’ in this country and was upset with existing economic and political situation of this country.
Later, the president Luis Arce promptly condemned the failed coup and called for citizens to come in the defense of democracy.
Then, he confronted the general and ordered for troops withdrawal. Thus, averting the coup.
After that, many international leaders and organizations like Organization of American States gave their support to President Arce and condemned the coup.
As per Reuters, Bolivia’s public prosecutor office will now initiate a criminal probe against the general. Arce has also called for vice admiral Juan Arnez Salvador’s arrest.
Meanwhile, the administration is now focusing on country’s economic improvement and ensuring political stability in the country.
