During the Birmingham stop of Diljit Dosanjh’s ongoing Dil-Luminati Tour, a familiar face made an appearance—Ed Sheeran joined him on stage. This isn’t the first time the two have shared the stage, as earlier this year, Diljit helped Ed out during his Mumbai concert in March.

A Surprise Appearance by Ed Sheeran

On Monday morning, both Diljit and Ed shared a joint Instagram Reel capturing the moment. In the clip, Diljit, dressed in all white, is performing when he suddenly shouts, “Ed Sheeran aa gaya oye” (Ed Sheeran has arrived), much to the audience’s delight. Ed, dressed casually in a black T-shirt, dark grey track pants, and light orange sneakers, then enters the stage.

He starts by playing his hit song Shape of You on the guitar, with Diljit eventually joining him. In a surprise twist, the duo performed a mashup of Shape of You and Diljit’s popular track Naina from the Bollywood film Crew. The performance ended with the two sitting together, singing, and sharing a hug.

Reactions on Social Media

Fans on Instagram couldn’t get enough of the collaboration. One user commented, “2024 is the year of epic collabs,” while another excitedly wrote, “The best collab is back.” Another fan humorously noted, “Hahahhaha ed shareen nu poora punjabi bana dena” (You’ve turned Ed Sheeran into a full Punjabi). Some fans even asked if the Shape of You x Naina mashup was available to stream anywhere.

A History of Collaboration

This wasn’t the first time Diljit and Ed performed together. Their first collaboration took place in March during Ed’s concert in Mumbai, where Diljit Dosanjh made a surprise appearance and sang his hit track Lover. Ed even joined in on the chorus, creating a memorable pop culture moment as it was the first time Ed Sheeran sang in Punjabi.
