BJP veteran Anil Vij has secured victory in the Ambala Cantt constituency, defeating Independent candidate Chitra Sarwara by a margin of 7,248 votes. Vij, a six-time legislator, expressed confidence in his win ahead of the polls, citing his track record of work in the constituency. Known for his long-standing political career, Vij has been a prominent figure in Haryana politics since 1990, when he first won a by-election from Ambala Cantt. Over the years, he has served in multiple state cabinet positions, handling key portfolios like health and medical education.
Despite facing competition from Congress rebel Chitra Sarwara and Congress candidate Parvinder Pal Pari, Vij’s focus on his achievements resonated with voters. He emphasized that the election was a contest between “the politics of work and mere talk,” positioning himself as a leader who delivers results. Although his bid for the chief minister’s post was curtailed by the BJP, which confirmed Nayab Singh Saini as their choice for the role, Vij remains a significant force within the party.
